Multi-Link Front Suspension

Multi-Link Rear Suspensions

BMW's multi-link rear suspension incorporates what is called "elastokinematics" that allows each wheel to move and flex individually without transmitting loads and forces through the sub-frame to the other wheel. These suspension systems incorporate anti-dive, anti-squat geometry which serves to keep the vehicle level during hard acceleration and braking.

BMW's newest multi-link rear suspension uses a modified version of the above system, but has made it even more compact by eliminating the trailing arms. All suspension mounting is to the sub-frame of the vehicle. This newest version is used on the E38 and E39 models.
